Piano Lessons with Daniel Linker
I am an experienced musician and educator based in Greenbank, Bristol. I offer piano lessons to children and adults, from absolute beginners to advanced players. I am also a composer and can help you to bring out your musical ideas, create your own pieces, and acquire a deeper understanding of how music works.
I can teach in English and Spanish.
About Me
I started my journey with the piano as a young teenager. Once I saw a child of my age playing a piece by J.S.Bach and felt I wanted to do that. This same day I asked my parents for piano lessons and they granted my wish. This is how it all started. At a more advanced stage, one of my teachers suggested that I would learn and understand better the piano if I had some students of my own. In this way, I started my journey into teaching –25 years ago!
I followed my musical vocation by studying for a degree in Music Theory at the University of Chile and Piano at the Catholic University of Chile. Along with my devotion to classical music, I took part in a notorious jazz/rock band in Chile at the time. In 2004 we got the awards 'The best band of the year' and 'The best artist of the year'. I also developed my interests as a composer. Between 2011 and 2017, and thanks to the financial sponsorship of the Chilean Government, I undertook an intense period of study at the University of Bristol, where I did an MA in Composition for Film, another MA in Contemporary Music Composition, and a Ph.D. in Composition. I got my doctoral degree in 2017. After this, I acquired vast experience teaching music in universities at under and postgraduate levels.
I love helping people in their musical journeys. Everyone has different goals and challenges. As a teacher, I count on a vast range of pedagogical tools and methodologies that I combine according to each student's needs. I always aim to develop a human connection with my students, where respect and empathy are at the core.
I am currently based in Bristol where I teach in my piano studio. I also develop my own research and musical projects as a Visiting Research Fellow at Bath Spa University.

The Lesson
I am a very flexible teacher and adapt to the needs and goals of each student. I believe that every lesson should be a stimulating and rewarding experience both for the student and for the teacher, so I always aim to create a warm and supportive environment.
For beginners, I emphasize building a solid foundation. This involves:
-
developing a strong sense of pulse and rhythm
-
learning an efficient and healthy piano technique
-
learning music literacy (playing from sheet music)
-
playing various musical styles (classical and popular)
-
learning how to study
More advanced players benefit from guidance on various aspects, such as:
-
improving their technique
-
selecting new repertoire
-
strategies to tackle new challenges
-
encouragement to practice and develop further
